Current paper proposals that have been reviewed remain eligible for presentation in 2021 and publication in the proceedings. Please see the updated schedule below for revisions, manuscript completion and new submissions for 2021.

The conference will examine the technical, industrial and social changes affecting audio education and training while also focusing on instructional resources, teaching methods, learning outcomes, technical operations, areas for research, and similar topics that are relevant to organizations and individuals who provide theoretical and practical training in all areas of audio engineering.

The 2013 conference generated papers on topics that included career and industry trends, methods for teaching listening, mixing and perception, program and curriculum design, and numerous case studies. Workshops and social events also provided opportunities for networking and professional development.

The aim of the 2021 audio education conference is to build on this foundation with updated perspectives, current research about our evolving field and additional contributions from trainers, faculty, researchers, managers and practitioners. Its outcomes will include a collection of peer-reviewed papers, historical documents, survey instruments, and potential recommendations for educational resource management and development.

Original contributions are encouraged in, but not limited to, the following topics:
• Relationships between student and faculty careers, academic research and industry
• Changing roles of audio and media professionals in businesses and companies
• Impacts of new commercial developments, including audio networking, immersive sound and artificial intelligence, on instruction, curriculum and applications
• Effective teaching and learning methods and technologies
• Discipline-specific case studies, including approaches to instruction and training in listening, mixing, perception, signal processing, teamwork, etc.
• Program overviews and history
• Topics related to diversity and inclusion in the classroom
• Strategies behind the design of educational programs in audio
• Maintaining and developing the competence of audio lecturers/teachers

Papers

Authors may submit proposals as complete papers (4—10 pages) or as an abstract (60–120 words) with a précis (500—750 words), using the paper proposal site by February 1, 2021. Complete paper and abstract-plus-précis proposals will be reviewed by at least two experts in the field, and accepted papers may be presented in the online program. Accepted authors will be notified by March 2, 2021. Final manuscripts (4 to 10 pages) of accepted papers, independent of the type of submission as complete papers or abstract-plus-précis, must follow any revisions guided by the committee’s review and will be due no later than April 30, 2021.

Deadline for all final manuscripts (previously accepted and newly accepted papers): 2021 April 30
